Sustainable” & “Green” – Buzzwords or Business Value?

Sustainable energy policies and green initiatives are hot topics in business, particularly in the technology sector. Creating and managing a green supply chain, or a carbon-reducing energy plan, call for both new technologies and a creative approach to existing technology.

What will the short and long-term impact of green strategy be on your business? Is there a way to reduce a company’s environmental impact while simultaneously increasing its business value?

The Tech Council Green Summit will explore those questions in depth on October 14, 2008 – in addition to panel discussions about the business impact of “green”, the Council will recognize area companies that are leaders in making green work for them, and the community at large.

Contact the Council about participating in the Green Summit.

Greater Richmond Companies to Watch

The Greater Richmond Technology Council is proud to be a partner along with many other local business organizations in the upcoming fourth annual Venture Forum's “Greater Richmond Companies to Watch” event. Every year the GRCTW highlights a group of local early stage companies deemed to have high growth potential. In the past, the majority of the selections have been high tech-oriented and many have gone on to successful sales, raised venture capital or experienced high growth in employment. This year’s event will be held at Toad’s Place on Wednesday, October 29 starting at 5:00 PM. We will be encouraging our members to apply for selection as a “company to watch”  and to attend the event that celebrates the Greater Richmond entrepreneurial community. We will let you know when further information becomes available.

What Have You Done For Your Employer (and Yourself) Lately?

By: Bud Whitehouse, Career Management of Virginia

As a new hire you were automatically defined as part of the solution. This is a good thing, but beware the tendency to get comfortable basking in the glow of being perceived as the problem solver. Basking is not an effective career management tool.

You’d better go solve a problem! And having solved it, document, document, document. The good that men do may live after them, but only if it is documented.

Documenting success is the surest way to promotion and the best defense against layoffs. But how you document success is important. What follows is a method my clients use effectively.  More

  Spin

The Tech Council is partnering with the Greater Richmond Chamber again this year to help present the Chamber’s annual trade fair. Formerly known as BizLinc, this year the show has been re-branded and refreshed as SPIN/Business in Motion.

In addition to the refreshed brand, SPIN is moving from the downtown to the Richmond International Raceway complex.

SPIN’s date is Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008. The event will offer exhibit booths, some great programs, and the chance to network with people from every business sector in central Virginia.

If you’d to exhibit @ SPIN, or would like more information, contact Casey Quinlan via phone (467-5716) or email.
