  Fall Technology Summit

Plans are underway for the GRTC’s Fall Technology Summit. The summit will explore Green policies, innovations and practices of businesses, and IT’s role in this growing initiative. We invite you to share your ideas and thoughts with us as we begin to formalize the agenda. Look for more information in the coming months as the Summit takes shape.

We would like to leave you with a few things to ponder:

  • The survey asked 738 companies, almost three-quarters of which employ more than 1,000 people, and found that over 40 percent of respondents said that environmental concerns were "very important" to their companies. Furthermore, 45 percent of those companies are either implementing or creating an overarching green-IT strategy to guide future purchasing and end-of-life considerations.  – Forrester Research
  • You would think, wouldn’t you, that protecting the ultimate capital asset upon which all future income depends – in other words this fragile planet – was worth investing in, seriously and urgently. So isn’t now the critical time to be developing these technologies, business models and financial instruments for environmental reasons, above all, but also for economic reasons? - HRH The Prince of Wales
  • Due to the presence of lead and other toxins, electronics -- everything from desktop computers to cell phones and televisions -- pose a significant risk to human health and the environment. In Europe, the Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) directive was passed in 2006 to force manufacturers of electronics to mitigate these risks by taking back and recycling used product in order to divert it from landfills, illegal dumps and unsafe disassembly practices.  – Greener Computing.com
  • Sustainability is about profit...it is the opportunity of the century - Ben Clarke, Kraft Foods
R’Biz the New Voice for Central Virginia Business

Richmond.com, Central Virginia’s most popular independent web portal, is partnering with veteran business journalist James A. Bacon to publish its Business Channel under the name of “R’Biz”.

When R’Biz commenced publication on May 1, it immediately began scooping other media outlets on important business news stories. Published daily, Monday through Friday, R’Biz provides comprehensive coverage in an easy-to-read blog format. Combining unparalleled content with Richmond.com’s successful sales and promotional strategies, the business channel doubled readership within the first two weeks of publication. R'Biz will publish news briefs and commentary about the Richmond-area economy and business scene in a blog format, updated daily Monday through Friday.

Richmond.com, which is experiencing phenomenal growth in readership and advertising, will apply the same successful sales and promotional strategies to the business channel that it has brought to restaurant, arts and entertainment, real estate, community focus and news.

Reach Thousands of Technology Decision Makers

Sponsorships are available for the Good Morning Technology! Breakfast Series. By sponsoring one of the breakfasts attended by more than 150 local technology leaders, your company will be linked with the "THE" technology resource in the Richmond community – the Greater Richmond Technology Council.

You can reach those leaders by sponsoring one of the breakfasts. As a sponsor, you will be the emcee of one of our breakfasts and your company will be heavily promoted as the sponsor of that event. Just as importantly, you will be recognized in emails and other promotions directed to thousands of local leaders for an entire year!

Upcoming speakers include: John Vivadelli, President, AgilQuest Corporation and Jeff Lacker, President, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Your Sponsorship will cover twelve (12) months from the date you sign up .

We are always interested in hearing your ideas for speakers and topics for the breakfast series or for any of our other programs. And, if you are interested in sponsoring any of the speakers in our series please contact us at the Council office 804.379.1177.
