On May
11th, the Greater Richmond Technology Council honored three
businesses, two non-profit organizations, and one individual from a list
30 finalists in six award categories at its Tenth Annual Technology Stars
Program. Sponsored by Capital One, the event recognized the best and
brightest stars in the region, and their outstanding contributions to the
vital growth of technology in Central Virginia. This year’s Gala
attracted an audience of nearly 700.
The 30 finalists – previously announced at an April 19 reception at the Federal Reserve – were selected from over 160 nominees. The winners were chosen by a select panel of judges, and announced for the first time at the May 11 event.

Commercial air service for Richmond-based businesses has historically been a regional Achilles’ heel in much the same way that traffic congestion is for Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads. Business travelers have faced a lack of options in carriers, high costs, multiple connections, and general inconveniences that led many to choose Washington, Norfolk, or another option to save money and hassle. All of that is changing.
Jon Mathiasen, Executive Director of the Richmond International Airport (RIC), will be the guest speaker at our May 27th breakfast. He will provide details on the stories that you’ve been reading about the dramatic changes to the airport and RIC’s new low-cost carrier – AirTrans.
