life.

SyCom Technologies
Gulak
to leave SyCom Technologies in Fall
Paula Gulak, Founding Partner and Vice President of SyCom
Technologies, announced this week that in the Fall, she will
leave the company she and four partners founded in 1996.
As VP of Marketing, Public Relations and Business Development,
Paula developed and implemented SyCom's branding, company
positioning, marketing activities and public awareness
throughout Virginia. Prior to the formation of SyCom, Paula’s
previous 15 years in the technology community included the
branding and marketing for two well know Richmond-based
technology firms - The Whitlock Group and DARDICK Computers, as
well as serving as East Coast Marketing Director for AmeriData.
“SyCom is a wonderful company with great people. I take so much
pride in having been a part of its birth, its image and its
growth. It has been an exciting 12+ years, however, I am ready
for a change and new challenges. This is not in anyway an
abrupt decision but one that Tom Cricchi, CEO, and I have been
discussing for several months. I am announcing it now to allow
a smooth transition to take place. Going forward, my plan is to
continue to work and be involved in the technology sector and
to also pursue interests that have been sitting on the back
burner for some time,” Gulak stated.
“Paula’s contributions to SyCom are a cornerstone of our
success, from her impact inside the company on our culture and
spirit of community service to her relationships with
Virginia’s information technology leaders, to her influence on
me personally as a marketing and business development mentor, ”
stated Tom Cricchi, SyCom’s CEO. “It’s a melancholy day for
SyCom when Paula moves on to her next successful venture, but
we thank her and wish her all the best.”
Paula has served on numerous government appointed commissions
and regional boards including the Commission on Information
Technology, the Innovative Technology Authority and Center of
Innovative Technology (CIT), and the Virginia Technology
Alliance. She served as President and Chair of the Greater
Richmond Technology Council (GRTC) from 1998-2002 and currently
chairs the GRTC's Large-Cap, Mid-Cap CIO and Women in
Technology Management Forums. Other involvements over the years
include the BBB of Central Virginia, The J Sargeant Reynolds
Foundation Board, the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce
Foundation Board and the Virginia BioTech Research Park
Corporation Board, of which she served as Vice Chair. In 2003,
Paula was awarded the IBM Leadership Award by the Greater
Richmond Technology community and in 2006 she received the YWCA
Outstanding Women in Business Award.
