ACQUISITION OF SELECT OFFICE SYSTEMS
Virginia Business Systems, headquartered in Richmond,
Virginia has announced the acquisition of Select Office
Systems (SOS) also of Richmond, Virginia. VBS, with four
additional offices located in Charlottesville, Lynchburg,
Roanoke and Tidewater, has increased it’s commitment to the
Richmond marketplace with this strategic partnership.
Jim Dotter, President of Virginia Business Systems, made the
announcement and added, “We are thrilled to expand our
client base in one of our core markets. The synergies

Gerry Blake, owner of SOS, is exiting the office equipment
industry to concentrate on other business endeavors. He is
active in the transition and will remain very much a part of
the VBS team, ensuring that his long-time customers are
comfortable with the new relationships. “The timing was such
that it just made a lot of sense to choose a partner that
had the same vision and customer care philosophies that we
have had for a quarter century” commented Blake. “In merging
with VBS, our employees will have an opportunity to grow and

to the office equipment industry and the communities they

LaDifference Enhances Customer
Service by Switching to e-Commerce Website
(Richmond, Virginia – April 7) LaDifference, a modern furniture
store in downtown Richmond, could not easily manage or update
the thousands of products displayed online with its previous
static HTML-based website. After years of handing out an
ever-growing list of changes and tasks to their graphic
designers, owners Andy Thornton and Sarah Paxton realized they
needed a website that was easy to use, easy to update, and easy
to manage themselves without relying on an expensive, dedicated
web developer. “The need for our new site came to head came
when our [old] HTML [site] had hit the one-thousand page point
and had become a ‘monster’ to manage and update,” according to
Paxton. Owners Paxton and Thornton turned to Allegro, a
long-term I.T. services provider and partner in Glen Allen, to
explore options to achieve their business and website goals.
Allegro recommended building a dynamic website using osCommerce,
an open-source web storefront (e-Commerce) application. “I
think the beauty is that they [Allegro] helped us create a site
that’s completely changeable and manageable within our own
staff… Ninety-nine percent of the time I can make changes
myself” said Paxton. “You’re sitting reading the site at 10
p.m. and see a stupid typo and can make a change and poof, it’s
done!” In addition to buyers’ benefitting from the new website,
the sales team can also more easily assist visitors in the
store. While helping visitors in the 50,000 square-foot store,
the LaDiff sales team can now suggest various products by
conveniently pulling up the website at one of the PC
workstations and using it as an internal catalogue or library.
