Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) is a state chartered, non-profit corporation dedicated to the growth of technology and business in Virginia. CIT's mission is to increase commitment to the creation of knowledge, accelerate the transfer of that knowledge into the global marketplace, and promote the growth of entrepreneurial firms. The Center is focused on the accomplishment of three strategic goals:
CIT's statewide regional offices provide service to university and federal lab researchers who have technologies to license, technology based businesses, and businesses and citizens seeking access to high-speed communications. These offices provide access to programs and services with a focus on technology transfer and commercialization delivered through outreach including specialized technology business consulting, connections to university expertise, access to strong partner networks and collaboration. In FY 2002: more than 1,400 companies received CIT services attributing 1,786 new jobs and increased competitiveness of $259M (sales increases, cost savings, private capital) to this assistance. 100 new companies acknowledged CIT help with start-ups and 80 companies cited CIT or a partner as a reason for coming to or staying in Virginia.
